About Shannon Rivers & Social Responsibility & Change CIC

Most people want to
do the right thing.
We show them how.

Social Responsibility & Change is a Community Interest Company built on a simple belief: that social challenges are solved through equal parts ambition and work.

This work started from an advert that didn't speak to me.

Shannon Rivers founded Social Responsibility & Change after a career path that began — perhaps unexpectedly — in marketing. Pregnant and looking around at the brands trying to reach her, she felt an absence. The ads weren't speaking to her. The messaging didn't reflect her experience. And she believed brands could — and should — do better.

That conviction led her into the work of making the "out there" better. But the more she looked, the more she saw
that external messaging was only part of the picture. Everywhere she turned, she could see the same fragmentation inside organisations — internal cultures that didn't match the values companies were projecting to the world.

"If you get the internal right, the external naturally follows."

That insight became the foundation of everything.

Shannon turned her focus inward — to the systems, structures, and cultures inside organisations — because she believed, and still believes, that authentic external change begins within.

A LIFELONG ACTIVIST
Shannon has been an activist her whole life. She'll admit, with a kind of affectionate frustration, that she often feels born in the wrong generation — that in the 1960s, 70s, and early 80s, people took to the streets in their thousands. That collective, visible, physical solidarity felt like it mattered in ways that are harder to replicate now.

Today, we're individually more aware of the personal cost of activism — and that awareness, however understandable, has made movements more fragmented, more cautious, more isolated.

Shannon's training work for activists is a direct response to that: an attempt to rebuild the connective tissue between causes and communities that share more common ground than they realise.

"Social challenges are solved through equal parts ambition and work. There is good out there — and people want to do the right thing. They just don't always know how. That's where we come in."

12.5 years. Every sector. Evidence-led, every time.

Shannon has worked across small businesses, charities, local authorities, global environmental campaign organisations, national housing charities, environmental policy institutes, public institutions, and FTSE 100/250 companies — bringing the same evidence-based, horizon-scanning approach to every engagement regardless of size or sector.

What makes the work distinctive isn't just the breadth of experience — it's the constant ear to the ground. Shannon keeps a close watch on the cultural, social, and political shifts happening in the world outside organisations, because what's happening "out there" always finds its way "in here".

That look-ahead perspective means clients don't just
respond to change — they're prepared for it.

The values that shape everything we do

Systems, not people

Underperformance is almost never about individuals. We look at the structures and cultures that need to change — and we change them.

Internal before external

Get the inside right and the outside follows. Authentic external change starts with the culture you build within.

Evidence over assumption

Every recommendation is grounded in evidence. We look ahead, read the
landscape, and bring frameworks that are built to last.

Solidarity over fragmentation

Whether we're working with organisations or activists, the goal is
always the same: more connection, less isolation, greater collective power.

We exist to create a more equitable, anti-racist, and socially responsible world — one organisation and one activist at a time.

Social Responsibility & Change is a Community Interest Company — which means that as you work with us, you're also contributing to something bigger.

Our profits are reinvested into the work: into activist training, into community impact, into building the kind
of Norfolk, and wider world, we believe is possible.

We're not just consultants for hire. We're invested in the change we're asking others to make.

Deliver ethical, collaborative, evidence-based consultancy to partners invested in cultural change — and build lasting cultural change by cultivating community that centres marginalised voices.

WHAT IS A COMMUNITY INTEREST COMPANY?

A Community Interest Company (CIC) is a type of social enterprise that uses its assets and profits for the public good. Unlike a standard limited company, a CIC is legally required to demonstrate that its activities benefit the community. Working with Social Responsibility & Change means your investment goes further than consultancy — it goes towards lasting social change.

Want the longer version?

I write Notes from the In-Between for people working through the messy middle of culture, inclusion, responsibility and change — the space between what organisations say they believe and what they are actually prepared to do.

Ready to work with someone genuinely invested in the change?

Whether you're an organisation ready to look inward, or an activist ready to look outward — we'd love to hear from you.
